The Sindh government is at risk of losing wheat worth Rs. 150 billion as more than 1.37 million metric tons of the staple food remains stuck at warehouses.
The provincial government has yet to clear the release of the stock.
The provincial Food Department has written to the Chief Minister to immediately release the wheat stocks from the 2022-23 and 2024 harvests. According to the letter, prolonged storage could lead to significant damage.
Farmers have also called on the Sindh government to sell the stored wheat without delay. They’ve warned that holding onto old stock will hurt the market for the upcoming harvests and further impact their earnings.
